Up and on the road to Bulawayo for 7am, arrived at the campsite which had no runnning water but it was beautiful, tranquil, clean (ish) pool and a nice snake greeting party.Half the group went off for a Rhino Safari and the other half relaxed. Vikki watched TV, Paula sunbathed and swam. Vik went off with 'Shirley' (real name Christine) to get supplies and discovered that only a couple of years ago the supermarket shelves were empty and no commodities were readily available. Due to currency devaluation, people had to go to the shops with a suitcase full oof money to buy a loaf of bread. When Vik returned we had a few drinks with Dave and Gareth from another Oasis truck (Dave reminded Vikki of the BFG) and heard tales of their African adventures. We were thrilled to be shown a photo of a camel spider that had been found in a tent bag on their last trip (camel spider: adults up to 20cm in length, have a split mandible head, and unlike other arachnids have ten legs instead of the usual eight allowing them to move particularly fast - we hoped we wouldn't encounter one of these beauties).

Dave and Gareth had had a bad run of luck it seemed; they broke down in the desert for a week, Dave got mugged, and the windscreen of the truck smashed when they collided with a 'bobble' of guinea fowl (Vikki's favourite bird). We thanked our lucky stars that we had booked for an August or October departure otherwise (debate just occurred over the use of 'else' or 'otherwise') we'd have had the pleasure of their debarcles too. After a few ridiculous tales and a few more drinks we took ourselves off to bed, excited for Victoria Falls tomorrow...... x
