Heaven Lodge

We woke up still with the previous nights make-up on our faces and, after an initial scare, we commandeered Paul and Lucinda's shower in their chalet upgrade to get nice and clean. We were only slightly put off by the electrocuting taps - not a little shock mind you - a full blown buzz of electrical current that made your hair fluffy! Carrying out a hasty risk assessment we used a plastic bottle to operate the taps and the shower was almost shock free!

On the road to Chimanimani Vikki was given a good laugh as she surveyed to row of white arses lined up before her at a bush toilet stop! The entire truck realising when she finally squatted that she was travelling 'commando' had the laugh returned.

We arrived at the 'not so aptly named' Heaven Lodge which we later found to be under renovation after recovering from looting under the Mugabe regime. Realising the significant temperature drop at this altitude we promptly upgraded to an A-Frame lodge which turned out to be not much more than a tool shed round the back of the main house with it's own resident mutant bugs, twin beds made out of driftwood and no form of insulation from the cold. We were in for a freezing night made slightly warmer by dodging creeping, flapping, clicking armoured beasties.

We decided not to join the others for another one of Alun's 'local meals' and instead stayed in our lodge with a couple of beers. Paula kept one eye on a giant Jimminy Cricket who was in the process of exploring the circumference of the hut and looking like he could leap onto her head in one bound. Eventually we managed to block out the cold and the beasties and fell asleep in all of our clothes...
