We woke up and had a very ordinary breakfast after screeching really loudly outside Emily's room where she was sleeping off her hangover! Very mature.

We couldn't help but feel that our Paradise Lodge is somewhat on the budget end of the scale in contrast to the luxury of some other resorts here. We relayed this to Alun as diplomatically as possible - a $50 per night upgrade should buy you more than the bare minimum! Taking a more positive view, we surveyed our surroundings and appreciated the tropical scenery. We boarded the boat and sailed off for our snorkelling adventure with the sun glistening off the water and heading towards a picturesque island way off in the distance. We reached the Atoll in just over an hour, sunbathing on the top deck of the boat and got ready in our snorkelling gear. After asking if we would see any puffer fish the guide responded to Paula with "Ah, a fish with a big belly like yours! A belly that could fit four African children.." Paula made a note not to provide a tip to that guide.

Snorkelling was great. In the clear blue ocean off the island and the surrounding reef we saw stingray, colourful starfish, the poisonous Stone Fish, Lion Fish, Clown Fish (Nemo), Parrot Fish, Moray Eels, Scorpion Fish and many more. The scuba divers among us even got to swim with turtles.

We had lunch on the boat and went out for an afternoon drift dive before heading back to the shore in the blazing sun. It did not take long to realise with some dismay that Vikki had burnt her arse and I had burnt my eyelids! Not quite sure what that says about my eyelids - or Vikki's bum for that matter!

We slapped on some aftersun and joined the gang for a meal and drinks in the restaurant of a neighbouring resort. It was delicious, King Fish curry. Unfortunately, Vikki had not learned from lessons of the past and made a giant schoolgirl error by taking her anti-malarial before we went out for dinner thus rendering her nauseous for the duration of the meal. A good slug of vodka cleared her head and we continued the night with lots of laughs at 'wobbly head' photographs (the rugby girls will know what I mean) knowing that Facebook profiles have been made and broken with these good value blackmail images!

Vikki got chatted up by a Scandinavian guy who fancied himself as a bit of a looker, announcing that he be referred to as 'Maximus Meltimus - cooler than fire!'. Naturally, this flew Vikki into fits of screeching laughter - made even more funny to the rest of us because good old Maximus was actually being serious when he said this! The same guy was spied the next day in little yellow budgie-smugglers on the beach - porntastic!

We declined the offer of heading to a 'local' club - even Alun declined so that kind of made the decision for us, it must be bad, right?! - and we went to bed very content, if not a little sore, from the full days activities...

Zanzibar comes from the Arabic term meaning 'Sea of Black People'.

Tell that snorkelling guide from your Mummy that he's going to get a good kicking if he says nasty things like that to my baby..... & he's probably got a little willy anyway!
