Jumped in a Tuc-tuc and had wacky racs with the rest of our tour group to the ort at Zanzibar!
Local ferry took us over with questionable health and safety procedures, crammed in with bikes, other Tuc-tucs, cars, chickens, coconuts...
Ferry to Zanzibar was a Catamaran that smelled of BO and the TV played Arnie Swarzenegger movies on a loop with subtitles. Vikkis sea-sickness tablets had to work overtime! The travelling public were ruder than London commuters - if that is possible!
After a stint at immigration, Zanzibar being a seperate state, we walked to our accommodation at Safari Lodge - aptly named even though plonked in the centre of an area resembling war-torn Baghdad
Later we explored Stone Town - Freddie Mercury's place of birth - just missed the sun going down as we entered Africa House (The oldest gentlemans club in East Africa). The mojitos made up for that minor disappointment relatively quickly though!
Heading to the night markets we were faced with multiple food salesman - some more convincing than others! Everything you could imagine on a skewer! Noticing many of our groups choosing delicacies from one particular stall we both went for the shark skewers which unfortunately turned out to be nauseatingy gristly! The garlic bread was sans garlic! The salad was ok.
After dodging persistant street sellers we headed to Mercury's Bar and drank wine. Vikki wasn't feeling too well so Paula ordered Sambuca chasers for them both and after 30 minutes it seemed to do the trick as we were all singing queen songs and having great fun with our fellow travellers!
Avoided going to one of Aluns 'local' clubs and headed home to our four poster bed for sweet dream of the northern beaches...
