Where I stayed
On the bus
Just rocked up in Krabi, Thailand. Absolutely knackered. And numb.
We left the Perhentians yesterday noon. The boat (after running out of petrol half way across) eventually delivered us to Kuala Besut where we bartered ourselves a clapped out taxi (we had to push start it ourselves) up to Kota Bharu. When I say clapped out, he was holding a heavy left on the steering wheel the whole time just to go in a straight line. I won't mention the brakes, but he must have had good reason for screaming around junctions without stopping.
So four white-knuckled hours later we were in Kota Bharu, where we took an overnight bus to Butterworth (and where I got my hands on the tasty new Canon after losing my old one to some sticky fingered loser in the Perhentians.) By 5.30am this morning we were propping ourselves up against a wall half-asleep at Butterworth station, waiting for the 6.30am train into Thailand. Naturally, the speed of the train was on par with that of a push bike and so it was well into the afternoon by the time we were throwing down our first Thai meal like frantic scavengers in order to catch a tuk-tuk in time to get to the Hat Yai bus station in time to catch the 2.30 bus to Krabi in time.
We got here at 7.30pm this evening. A day and a half of sleepless motion, watching from the window. As I said, knackered..
