I got myself a travel companion. She's a friend and colleague of Lee's, a pukka pizza-maker at Minnie's Bistro up the road, name's Sarah. We got talking one night and it appeared that my leaving Melbourne sparked a bit of interest. She happens to want a change from the norm and so we spent a night batting a few scenarios back and forth which eventually resulted in a bit of a gameplan. The upshot is that she's going to join me on my quest to cross the Nullarbor and hit the west coast for a while.

For a wandering hermit like me this is quite a big move. After all, taking on someone else involves sacrifice and compromise, a difficult task for an old hobo. Which is why it needs to be the right person. And from what I've seen so far she is. Lee would say she's 'proper strine', a right raucous Aussie sheila. She's incredibly low maintenance, down to earth, loves randomness, up for anything, got a mad sense of humour, a filthy mind and a dirty laugh. What more could you want? She's bonza and will make a crankin' road buddy, a cracker roadie, no shit Sherlock I'm serious, straight up, bloody oath! It's a spin out! I'm tellin' ya fair dinkum she'll be right aye Cob? In fact I'll bear my arse on Bourke she'll be apples, I shit you not..

So once again I hang up the hat of solitude and join forces with another restless soul. Plans are being made. She's in the process of chucking her stuff into storage and giving up the house. I'm in the process of getting an MCC ('medicare card'), a TFN (tax file number) and a better phone network, as well as a new tyre for the back of the SV. Oh and we're on the lookout for a swag and a billy, and a coolibah tree to camp under on those starry starry nights.

Once this is sorted and we've recovered from the big fat bye-bye bash it'll be time to hit the road. Which is just as well, my feet are itching proper..
