Back in 2003 I took a cheap flight to Malaga, hired a car for a few days and nailed the south coast, from Malaga right the way up to Mojacar in the Almerían province. Geographically this is no big achievement, but when I say nailed, I mean I got my head right in - inspecting every town and village along the way for any kind of investment potential.

Passing back through some of these villages now, with the parentals almost four years later seems all very rewarding.

My original visit was with a view to assisting them find some suitable retirement options and getting a proper feel for the place.

And yet now, having left the Sierra Nevada this morning for the south coast, we've all had the chance of spending a bit of time in some of these original locations: Salobreña, La Herradura, Nerja, Almuñecar and so on, far too many to list. Some beautiful places. It be interesting to see what they're like five or ten years from now.

For around an hour's drive, the contrast between two places is phenomenal. This morning we ate breakfast up in the gripping chill of the mountains, now we're nibbling on lunch by the sea in a t-shirt, sweating. What an amazing place..
