M: 'The air-conditionings on..'
D: 'Quick, close the window!'
S: 'Why?'
D: 'It makes the air-conditioning work overtime..'

It's worked out well having made our last overnight in Estepona.

Another glorious start today saw us dawdling along its lengthy promenade as the sun followed slowly behind us. We passed joggers, dog walkers, cyclists and people exercising on the beach. It was most pleasant.

We took our time, kicked around down at the mariner and all the way back round for a hot breakfast of huevos revueltos at one of the cafes down by the water.

The plan was to head along the N340 coastal road, which misses the A-7 toll and provides plenty of opportunity for stopping often to check out more seaside villages. This we did, through Marbella and San Pedro and all the little ones in between, past Mijas and 'Funny Gorilla' (Fuengirola) and over to Benalmádena, a potential hub of interest we'd planned to assess for its 'venue potential' over the next few days when 'Young Daniel' finally makes his Spanish debut.

We concluded that Benalmádena was perfect for what we needed, though the fact that it was totally over-run by British holiday-makers brought an overwhelming sadness. The menu's were displayed in English and Spanish; 'egg and chips' were advertised in big bold letters outside almost every eatery, as was something along the lines of  'Spurs v Leeds - TONIGHT! ON THE BIG SCREEN!' with a side comment boasting the cheapest pint of Carling in town. Wow. People were sat round wearing silly hats reading British newspapers and muttering the occasional Spanish word to unsuspecting waiters before sitting back with immense pride at their petty achievement. Sorry, I digress.  But it sickens me deeply.

Tomorrow sees the arrival of BMI 'Flight 1031', which should be carefully delivering my oldest chum - young 'Skipper Hodges' - safely to Malaga airport. Four nights and five days. Over two years of catch up. The party's on..
