I went to check out a couple of potential new places today. The first pad I looked at around noon was a new-ish three story villa type thing overlooking the lake, mountains and right through the middle of the valley towards Glenorchy. It's beautiful. And it's not just the views. The room on offer has its own patio and small garden area outside. There are balconies with stunning views to the front and rear and a huge living area with wood burner and open plan kitchen/dining area, all kitted out in a modern theme. When I first walked up the stairs and saw it all, huge rays of sun projected in through every window and it felt like a tropical holiday villa. I went and stood on the front balcony and looked out over the valley and the blue sparkling water like it was some sort of penthouse suite. It's a palace!
Jez and his partner Lynne-Marie are a couple from Devon. They seemed friendly enough and are of similar age and though we'd all just met, the banter was plentiful. The other two (Shelley and Ricky, both Kiwi) were at work. All four of them had only been living there for about a week and were looking for one more housemate to complete the jigsaw. I explained my situation and strange working hours and they said they'd be in touch the same evening. They'd seen a few people already and wanted to discuss it with the others before making a decision. This I could understand and so I went on my way filled with nothing but hope. I was so excited. I've spent all this time living out the back of a small electricians van, before moving to luxury. This place totally takes the piss, and for only a fractional hike in rent. This would be like moving from luxury to luck-sure-eee!
I went to see pad number two after dinner. It was asking exactly the same rent as the penthouse. It was also an absolute, utter shit hole. This built my hopes up even more. Like Jez told me earlier, I told the guy at the 'number two' house I'd be in touch before the weekend was through with an answer either way. Then I hobbled back to town. As I got halfway down I got a call. It was Jez in an excited tone. 'You can move in whenever you want mate.' Bingo!
Bingo! Bingo! Bingo! Bingo! Bingo!
