My foot's starting to get out of hand. I couldn't put any weight on it when I got up this morning. It's gone all pink around the wound and it's throbbing like hell. I guess all the salt water activity isn't giving it any opportunity to heal. Surfing everyday in Raglan then all the diving here? I am a silly, silly boy.

I went for a long, agonising walk in to town to see the pharmacist this morning. I got halfway there and had to sit down for a while. It was killing me and I'd started to go dizzy. I just chilled for a while with my foot up, then picked myself up for a second attempt. The pharmacist was really helpful, reckoned it had become infected and gave me some clear stickers to cover it up with. I had told him about the crucial final dive tomorrow before I left town and he said that the stickers should keep the water out. Then he told me to stay out of the water and stop punishing it for a while to give it half a chance. I said I would.

So I've been sitting down at Smitty's with my foot up. I decided to confirm my bus and write a few notes. There wasn't much else I could do. I just couldn't walk. I'm gonna have to stay out of the water for a good while and let this thing start to scab and dry up. I know it's downright stupid, I know it is, but I just can't miss that free dive tomorrow. Diving's an expensive game anyway and to get the offer I got the other night is rare. I've gotta do it, there's no two ways about it. And it will get me back to Hahei - save hitching cos' there's no way I'll manage it in this state. (Note to self:- If you end up keeled over in agony for a week and can't do anything, or end up with a serious problem, don't you dare get pissed off about it!)

To make things more interesting, I called to reserve a bus to Rotorua from Hahei, and was told there wasn't one. They had changed the bus routes the other day which meant it left Hahei at 8am instead of after lunch - for Raglan! Then it was on to Rotorua. So it looks like I'm backtracking a wee bit. This means that I'll have to spend tomorrow night in Hahei in the porta-cabin, get on the bus at 8am the following morning and then shoot over to Raglan. Cool, I wonder if Chris is still there? (Note to self:- Don't even think about surfing!)

So, this afternoon I'll be packing everything up, washing my foot, creaming it, and plastic stickering it before heading out for one last night with Craig, Dean and his chums for some more gripping goodbyes.

Kin foot.
