Where I stayed

I've thoroughly enjoyed my time here in Paihia - the friendly smiling people, the beautiful scenery, the tranquility of the Bay, the seaside village 'feel' and the laid back lifestyle.

I've met some great people here and made some good friends (locals as well as travellers). I've also said goodbye to some, and wished them well.

Most mornings I have had breakfast outside by the Bay just a few feet from the sea, admiring the dolphins and watching the sunrise from over the hills. On most of my free days I have walked, talked, Kayaked and soaked up the local atmosphere, as well as spending a couple of minutes with Jake, who could often be found tucked under the bench in the shade with his water bowl. Most evenings, I have sat silently, entranced by the stars and the rustling of the waves. Others, I have spent sharing a lot of laughs and great times with some thoroughly good people.

I have been very tempted to stay on here for much much longer. There is just 'something' about the Bay of Islands that warms me. I have come very close to taking work and a flat and extending my stay. It also hasn't helped when people have re-confirmed how good it is here and tried to convince me to stay. I even spoke with Micky yesterday who had got as far as 'Wellington' on her travels. Shockingly, she has decided to postpone her plans and head straight back up to the Bay of Islands on Tuesday as she misses the place so much. She was really excited about coming back and invited me to spend Christmas here! A right headspinner!

But despite all this and my attachment to the beauty of the Bay and the people who inhabit it, I have to move on. This isn't the first or last time I shall feel this way. I have to continue with my journey and move on to pastures new.

But I shall miss this place. E noho rÔ Pahia. For now..
