Where I stayed

After some consideration, I went back to the diving school today and booked myself on to the 'Advanced Open Water Diver' course. This one's only over two days but covers five 'adventure dives' giving greater experience and confidence.

I was kindly given a $50 discount as I'd just passed the Open Water course - so 'can't grumble'. I was also given another manual and told to read through and select three elective dives that suit my interests. There are two compulsory dives though that must be completed - a 'Deep Dive' and an 'Underwater Navigation Dive'.

I thought it would be well worth doing as it only requires the Open Water Certification to do the course and will qualify me to dive up to 30 metres in the future, opening up a lot more opportunities. The next stage after that requires at least twenty or more logged dives, so I thought I may as well get as far as I can with it while I'm here and where there is good professional instruction. It will also give me a chance to go and dive Greenpeace's infamous 'Rainbow Warrior' which was bombed by the French Secret Service in 1985. Apparently, it's a very popular dive location and is used by the diving school here in Paihia to do the advanced open water course. Great!

So, I'm booked in for Tuesday and Wednesday all being well. I've just got to read through the manual once more, select the most appropriate dives that suit and complete the appropriate coursework. Looks like my head's back in the books once again!
