Well, two weeks today I'll be flying from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Denpasar in Bali, Indonesia as part of my triple-legged journey from London Heathrow to Auckland, New Zealand.

I figured that as I'm not in any 'rush' - I may as well spend two whole days getting there rather than one and a half. It'll give me chance to stretch my legs at least.

I'm going to be spending twelve months in New Zealand. After that the 'general' idea is to fly to Australia and spend twelve months there, but for now - we need to turn our attention to New Zealand.

From what I've read, although it's a small and lightly populated country New Zealand encompasses all of the world's natural attractions. You can trek on the slopes of active volcanoes - travel through remote, rugged patches of virgin rainforest - walk around thermal geysers and boiling mud - or discover kauri forests with some of the largest and oldest trees on Earth!

You can swim with pods of playful dolphins, fish for trout in pristine lakes and streams, watch whales and see fur seals and penguins swimming around your boat as you cruise on remote fiords.

Again, for your reference and to keep you in the picture I thought the map below may be useful. It at least gives you an idea of where I'm headed and what's to come.

They call it the extreme sport capital of the world - you can go white-water rafting, cave rafting, rock and mountain climbing, tandem skydiving, bungy jumping, skiing down long glaciers, jet boating, zorbing, base jumping, kayaking and loads of other things like tramping along some of the world's best known tracks.

But really, I'm only relaying what I've read in the guidebooks and on the internet. It's no good reading it - I want to report it. So I'm saying no more about it until I live it. Then I'll know it's real - and so will you.

Well, that's more or less 'the background' out of the way - from now on the entries should appear more 'eventful' rather than 'theoretical'.

Two weeks to go and I really have got so much to do, if only you knew.
