Well we arrive at Decrecen a little after lunch. \the old city part seems lovely, massive churches and buildings line the large open promenade where people relax, do shopping and drink. Fountains are prominent and large in size. Colourful gardens would add to the pleasant display, though for us it was mostly trees dropping their leaves all over the place. Having said this, I DO have to mention this and I apologise for the inhabitants of Debrecen, but outside in the fresh air the whole city centre seemed to have that quaint smell of 'dog shit' though I never saw any throughought my walks. I can't explain it, but soon as you walk out the hotel or get out of your car you are hit with this smell.

The hotel we had seemed ok, we had private parking at the back, and some burly looking concierge shows us to our room to see if we were happy with it. I should have said 'NO' but I was still tired and we did not have any internet access to go looking elsewhere so we took it. Even though the photos look nice on the internet, the room itself was very basic. My pet peeve was that it came with one of those old style russian toilets and that the toilet paper was inside a locked dispenser that only gave you one sheet of paper at a time. (Must be shortage of toilet paper in Debrecen).

Most of the other facilities seemed closed as well seeing as it was 'out of holiday season' However the room cost us about 75 euro for the night, and it was definitely not worth that. I showed Tomas some rooms that you can stay in Bangkok, 4-5 star hotels that are only about 50 euros. His eyes lit up and his mouth dropped.

We had a lovely view of the city square from our 4th floor window, something we were to regret later that evening. No air con in the rooms and they were getting rather warm, some heater in the bathroom seemed to be stuck 'ON' - Mozzies are also about I had read so was bit reluctant to leave open the windows.

Went for a walk about the city and grabbbed some nice dinner at some local cafe. Planned to visit the train station in the morning to purchasemy tickets to Bucharest in Romania.

That night, we tried to get internet access, we had to pay 15 euros for a day ticket and then could not get a signal from our room. Tomas had got me hooked to the online Poker Tournament like as shown on tv. Its a free version and yet you can still win for yourself 7 euro if you are the last person playing. So we were bit disappointd that we had to sit in the foyer to play. Went for another stroll and returned back about 11.30pm to see this 'mature-aged' hooker sitting in the main foyer smiling at us. We quickly sidetracked her and made our way to the lifts just as she got up and started to follow us. Got the elevator doors closed just in time  phew what a sight she was. About 55yo, brught red hair and a face ful of blue make-up wearing these long black boots and small black leather mini skirt. For a while i thought I was in St Kilda.

Hardly got any sleep that night, due to Tomas snoring in the other room but more to the gathering of youth in the main square. It seems this region is the local 'hang-out' for everyone aged between 18 and 30yo in Debrecen, so no sleep at all. Was too petrified to take the laptop back downstairs to the foyer, so stayed in my room and watched soccer on tv til about 4.30am when outside finally quietened down and I got some sleep.

Later the same day, we had our provided breakfast, (that was the best part od the hotel) and we made our way to train station. Woman there told Tomas that we had made a mistake, no train goes from this city to \Debrecen and we had to leave from another city which was way south.

I was grumpy, tired and frustrated, so I told Tomas to just take me vack to Eger and I could have a good sleep there and rethink my plans.

Drove back to Eger where I settles in and had an early night, Tomas went back to his home and had to be ready for a long day at work as his boss had gone for holidays.
