Last day in the Casco. So we think that Casco Viejo could probably really be done in a day, but...we needed a second day because of the presedential hooplah. Everything was closed the day before, churches, café's and most restaurants. I would offer museums as well, but we didn't really see any museums that were in operation, but if they were there and we couldn't tell, well then they were closed too. In Panama, the President gets a six year term, so you better like him or her (a girl can hope) because you've got them for 2,190 days. The only respite is that they cannot be re-elected. All that said, this on his way out President was quite highly regarded, as well the new one is. We think that the new one owns Marinelli Apple Juice.

So we finally get to go into some of the old churches. For a girl who's been to mostly European or European settlement churches, this is not like those. These are fairly simple but with flash. The alters have a bit of whimsy and kitch for lack of a better term. We went into the "Gold Church" which is the San Jose, and it was flashy and ornate and people stood in front of the alter to get their picture taken. This was a first for me to see.

After visiting the churches, and getting my Mola's before heading out of San Blas tourist traps, we got an ice cream, one for me, one for a stray dog. Ohhhh the dogs and cats!!! Without fail, even though I know it's a culture different than mine, it just tortures me so. It's very difficult to disconnect from. I look in their eyes and I swear they're saying to me, "what did I do to deserve this?" It haunts me, and I could probably describe each and every of the 10's we've seen. It doesn't matter how much I travel to other parts of the world, this never gets easier for me.

We find our way to Ego for a bite to eat, amazing brochettes by the way, then we depart for the regional airport to catch our plane to Bocas Town on Isla Colon.
