Bike and Chill

This morning I decided to try another bike trail about 10 miles north of Moab. I got my bike ready in no time, threw it in the back of the truck and was off by 9. Pooh was still sleeping when I left and did not want to go. The trails are at this place called Bar M. It is one of those country and western them shows but they had enough land to build some trails. There are all kinds of trails here from easy to hard. I did a total of 11 miles here during the morning. Eight miles was in a loop trail around the place which was pretty much a 4x4 route. This was considered easy which was just what I needed. Now this is a different easy from back east. There were a few slick rock sections with pit holes to watch out for but I was able to stay on my bike the whole time. I did take a 3 mile side trail that was on single track and was one step higher than the loop trail. This did have a few sections where I got off my bike for a short bit as there were some stair step rocks here and there. But the whole Bar M trail was a great riding experience for someone like me. I know I don't have the ability to do the famous slick rock trail in town – so why try and break something and not have fun. On the Bar M, I did get a good workout and I had fun – that’s what it is all about. Let the 3% body fat people do the slick rock.

I got back home in time to shower and turn on the TV for the Women’s World Cup final between the US and Japan. I was so pumped about this game that I just knew the US would win and we’d be in a big national celebration which is what we need right now. During the first half the US totally dominated but there was no score. I was confident the US would get one through. During half time I cooked me some lunch. The second half went just as planned – the US got a goal with only 15 min. left in the game. That should be enough. But no, Japan scored with 8 min left on sloppy US defense. So now for 30 min. of overtime. Again, the US scored, but so did Japan. Now it was to a shoot-out. And the US missed the first 3 out of 5 so you know how that turned out. Japan won and I was mad for the rest of the day. All those hours to watch the US dominate and still lose. Ouch. Time to quickly find something else to do before I lose my mind.

So back to my usual afternoon in Moab – just chillin, reading, working on computer. There were a few major storms to pass here and there but they are short. After hours of this we finally got it going to take a drive and hike out to an arch outside the national park – Corona Arch. Would we find that beer under the arch? Being a typical afternoon out here there were clouds and stores here and there. Right as we got to the arch trailhead, I could see some major store cells right in front of us and heading our way. Then the lightning bolts started to come out. I’m like no way Jose to hiking right now on an open trail – we’d be lightning bait. So we decided to wait it out in the truck. But it looked like this storm would go off and on for another hour. The trail was suppose to last 2 hours and soon we’d be out of sunlight. So after 30 min. of waiting we buggered off. This is just not my day.

Back in town it was time to go out and eat and hopefully salvage the day with a good meal. So our last stop in Moab would be the Moab Dinner. But no – another rejection. Turns out this place is closed on Sundays!!!! AAARRRHHHHH!!!! No now it was my mission to find another place to eat and munch away all the bad vibes. Pooh wanted to stay in of course as she does not really like going out, but I was in no mood to eat in. So we found a place in town that had alfredo pasta. We walked the half mile into town and ate at a place called Zaks. We really wanted to eat outside so we had to wait a long time – 30 min. Inside it was just too loud with screaming kids and their parents doing nothing about it. There were not too many seats outside so less chance of noise. In our careers we have 7th grade noise all day. So during vacations we like as much peace and quite as possible, especially when we are eating. We finally got our table out by the street. However, there were more noises out here – loud families walking by, cars with idiot music blaring out (why is it that bad music has to be played loud), and motorcycles with no muffler – and they wonder why drivers are not as courteous too them. Pooh did get her alfredo and I got a pizza and salad buffet – just like StevieBs back home but for twice the price. The pizza was very good and cooked in a stone oven. However, the service at this place was VERY slow. Not so bad since I had the buffet but my water was only filled once in an hour. Being a buffet, I did overeat, so walking home I felt like a rolly polly.

So overall a bad day, but I did get some good pizza at the end. Last night in Moab after a week so time to head out tomorrow. I tried to get some pictures up loaded but the campground internet was really bad – perfect ending to the day.
