Hi to all....Packing up here for a 6:00 a.m. wake up call and begin the journey home. Since the last post from Paris been going full tilt to get as much in as we can.
Last full day in Paris saw us running about town on the Metro. from Montmartre to the Eiffel Tower and the Luxembourg Gardens. Montmartre too many stairs, but what a view! The Moulin Rouge, no Nicole K. or Ewan M. to be seen, only sex shops and hookers, in broad daylight! Yikes!
Spent well over an hour in the Montmartre Cemetery though, fascinating, moving, the scae of the monuments to be believed only when seen. Then off to the EiffelTower, we soon discovered best viewed from a distance. Hundreds of tour buses, thousands of tourists and the scale of the thing so massive there is not much to see whne you're up close. A good part of the lower portion also covered in safety mesh to protect from falling rusty bits and some major restoration work going on too. A bit of a non plus up close and the lineup for the 2 functioning elevators to viewing platforms about 3 days long.
Next day on the the Eurostar, not without some excitement as I read the deaprture time wrong and we arrived at station about 10 minutes before train departure! Double yikes, but we made it on board and before you know it we were back in London. Such a quick and eay trip, faster than going from Victoria to Vancouver by a long shot.
Back in London and back at Park Plaza then off to a traditional British roast beef dinner at the Duke of York Pub and then to the theatre to see Billy Elliott. Lots of fun, great show and very topical and local show. Half the time couldn't understand the dialogue for the heavy accents.
Today was our last day and so as in Paris down to the Underground and off to do some shopping in the Covent Gardens area and then later to Harrods. Harrods is a whole other adventure that would take days to explore, suffice it to say we saw only a little bit.
Back to the hotel, a light dinner and now to bed. By the time most of you read this we will be back in Canadian airspace and well on our way home. It's been a great ride and had fun sharing it with all via the blog.
'Jeanette' thanks for the invite to expand on the U2 show, but I will save that for another time, there are some in the reading audience that are quite tired of hearing me go on..and on..and on about U2..ha ha.
Good night from London, talk and see many of you soon!
