. One room had a collection of human skulls and is considered the most important display in the whole world. Then we saw the snake park with many species of poisonous snakes including the black mamba and puff adder. There were also crocodiles, alligators, and turtles. Next, for 300 shillings the driver took us to the KCC which is the Conference Center of Kenya. The traffic was pretty bad so it took awhile. We said we would meet him at 7:00 pm. For 400 shillings each, and 150 shilling tip we went up to the top of the helipad of the 30 floor building. This gave us a good view of the entire city and made us aware of many places that were pretty far away too. Then it started to rain really hard. We waited it out for awhile then finally went out into the sprinkles. We saw the judicial building and the city hall. Then we saw the parliment building and I got in trouble for trying to take a picture of the outside. Then little beggar kids came up to us which was sad but we turned them away because that is what we were instructed to do. We tried to get into a casino but they wanted to hold our bags for us (our cameras were inside) so we said no.
Next we walked to city market. Every stall had a worker wanting us to come inside, making us feel pressured into buying something. There were many neat things but of course no prices were marked and they wanted to haggle, but acted totally put off by the offers we made. We ended up with 3 pairs of earrings for 600 shillings, a magnet which Miles did not barter at all for at 400 shillings, a wooden puzzle for 300, and two art prints on small canvas for 200 shillings
. I had to use the restroom and that was 5 shillings and was the nastiest that I had seen so far in Africa. We saw another casino so we went inside but it seemed a little shady so we didn't play. I am sure that it was fine but I wasn't getting a positive vibe and would prefer to wait until a different one. Next we went to eat at a place called Greenview restaurant. Miles got goat with rice and cabbage with mango juice for 300 shillings. I got veggies with ugali (kinda like thick mashed potatoes but made with corn meal) for 250 shillings. We split something called ndazi which was a triangle shaped piece of hollow bread with a sweet taste. After that we started looking for an internet place. We both used a computer for about 15 minutes and it was 50 shillings. Next we started walking back and stopped at the lobby of Hilton. Prtty fancy hotel for an otherwise kinda behind city. We met our driver at 7:00 but traffic was terrible and it took close to 40 minutes. As the crow flies the hotel was less than 2 miles away. So why not walk, you might ask...Two reasons. 1. It was dark 2. Because it was dark I did not feel brave enough to try. The road our hotel is on is completely torn up. There are piles of asphalt at least 6 feet high. People are roaming the streets, there is trash, vendors, and rats everywhere. Supposedly the Chinese government is working on the roads but people use them even when they are closed. On the way back to the hotel there was a guy selling nuts by walking up and down between rows of cars
. I got two packs for 30 shillings because they looked different than our nuts. They were the exotic nut known as the peanut :)
Finally we made it back to the hotel. It was only supposed to be 500 shillings but we gave him 800 shillings. He has a wife and a 9 month old daughter. We had already eaten but the food we had was not filling so we headed to the hotel restaurant. We had chipati which is most similar to a fried tortilla shell and Irio which was not that great. It was potatoes and corn with pumpkin leaves.

I thought that it was very light out for being before 7:30 in the morning because that is the time Miles set the alarm for. I was being still and quiet not to wake him. Finally he tossed and turned so I could ask him the time. 10:40! WHAT??? Holy cow! How did that happen? Well, we were tired and the alarm didn't go off. We went to breakfast, and apparently the cost of our room includes breakfast. Cereal with hot milk, toast, eggs, sausage (I don't think it was pork), and fruit. We asked about getting a driver, then we showered. No hot water, supposedly there is an electric water heater but it didn't work for us. We went to Nairobi National Museum for a 500 shilling taxi ride. Our driver had only been there once so when we saw that the citizen rate was only 150 shillings as opposed to our 1200 shillings each admission that we asked if he wanted to come along. He did and seemed to have a good time. There was a hall of birds, large mammals, history of Kenya, culture, and cradle of mankind evolution area
