We left the hotel by 7:00 am.  We had a long drive to Micheline's house in Queens.  We got on the Garden State Parkway without any trouble.  We stopped at one of the service plazas and there we had a little issue.  After we put in the credit card to get gas their computers froze.  Since the computers froze they couldn't tell if our transaction when through so they had us pay cash, except then they called later and said the credit card went through but they did not know how to void the transaction...ugh, something to deal with later.  Anyway, we continued and even though we made a wrong turn or two, things worked out. We went over the longest suspension bridge in the United States which was pretty cool. We arrived and soon Micheline was taking us to the subway station.  We were at Rockefeller Center by 11:00 am.  We did the Top of the Rock tour so we were outside on the 67th, 68th, and 69th floors and had a 360 degree view of the city. It was alot of fun and lots of pictures were taken.  We saw where the ice skating rink is...much smaller than we thought.   Oh well.  Next we went to St. Partrick's Cathedral, largest gothic cathedral in the United States.  next we went to the Lego store, and there aren't words to describe it. After that we started walking south on 5th Avenue. We found a great little place to eat lunch.  Miles had a chicken steak sandwich and I had grilled chicken.  We next went to the New York Public Library, one of the largest reference libraries in the world.  There was a special 100 year exhibit so we saw some pretty amazing books (by Shakespear, Hitler, Darwin's Grandpa, Audobon, etc)  We started walking up Broadway and saw Time Square during the day.  We went into the 3 floor M&M store, and the Hershey's store.  We went and got in line for Letterman.  I could devote about the next 50 lines of text explaining how frustrating the ticketing process, the rules process, and the teaching us to laugh process is, but that would sound bitter.  Once we actually sat down in our seat (right at 2 hours after the process started) it was good.  However it is something that I would not do again.  Jason Bateman was the first guest talking about the movie Horrible Bosses, and then Amy Sadaris (don't think I spelled that right), then the music group Drive -By Truckers.  After that we walked from 53rd Street to 34th street at Madison Square Garden to meet Bonnie and Micheline (our dive buddies in Roatan Honduras last year)  We went to B& H which is the biggest camera store that you can imagine.  Then we went to a Turkish place to eat on 9th Avenue which has lots of ethnic places.  Then we walked over to Times Square and it was getting dark.  People EVERYWHERE!!!   We took some pictures then went into the Toy's R Us store which has a full sized ferris wheel inside.  Each car of the ferris wheel is different (very cool). Then we took the subway back and drive from the edge of Queens back to Micheline's house.  When we got into her car there was a huge firework display over the water (they think it was for the summer solstice.  What a great first day in NYC
