After breakfast and a quick stop at the council toilets on the way out of town we headed off to Lark Quarry. Another Dinosaur experience. Lark Quarry is 110 kms out of Winton. It is the only fossilised dinosaur stampede in the world. Amazing hey! When it was discovered nothing was done for several years. Then eventually after deterioration from people walking on it a cover was built over the top. The kangaroos thought this was lovely so eventually a fence was built. Today a purpose built building with temperature control and ramps to look down onto the footprints protects this amazing wonder. It is extremely clear. There are definate footprints of different shapes and sizes - very obvious. The scenery around the Quarry is spectacular. You could film a wild western movie out here.The Sydney Museum shows an enactment on a huge wall.
The scenery on the way out and back was beautiful. Lots of wildlife roaming the countryside. There are some fences around but not everywhere. So there are cattle, the odd horse, kangaroos and heaps of sheep on this road

Lark Quarry Dinosaur Stampede Winton

. It is half bitumen and half dirt.
We arrived back into Winton at about 1 pm so we had a look at the Waltzing Matilda centre. A place which recognises and pays a tribute to 'The Song' of the same name. There is much memorabilia here also. There are trains and cars and trucks and old cash registers, shoes, medical instruments, etc, etc. You name it they have got it.
Another bizzar thing Winton is proud of is Arno's wall. This is a wall around a man's house - yes you guessed it "Arno". He has cemented anything possible into his wall including 3 kitchen sinks. Apparantly the inspiration came to him when he was working in The Vatican in Rome.
Winton was very interesting.
