Revised and updated 2/13/14

Hi, Everyone!

Somewhere I remember a song in a movie entitled "Wonderful, Wonderful Copenhagen" sung by a native of the city.  It came to mind just now and sounded good for the Subject Line for our email to you.  Copenhagen IS wonderful and we'll have time to explore the city tomorrow.  (The movie, by the way, is "Hans Christian Andersen" starring Danny Kaye.  Thanks, Lynne and Andrew, for refreshing my memory! ed.)

As usual, the flight to Europe is a long one and we had to change planes in Stockholm, Sweden before we finally made it here.  It all went smoothly though and after we picked up our bags and our car we immediately hit the road and drove west to a smaller city called Roskilde.  This place has truly ancient Danish roots as it was, among other things, the place where the basis of Denmark's Constitution was formed who knows how many years ago.  After we walked Roskilde's old, narrow, winding streets and enjoyed their outdoor market (you can bet they're welcoming Spring here!) we stopped in the Visitor Center office where their manager told us of a castle a few kilometers north of there that is considered one of the most striking castle complexes in Scandinavia.  Built in the town of Hillerød, it's known as the Fredericksborg Castle and considered a "Danish Versailles".  Its origins go back to 1588 and since 1878 has been the headquarters for the Danish Museum Of National History.  Yes, it has all the marvelous art work and dazzling rooms you would expect for such a place, but the thing that might make it the Danish Versailles has to be the beautiful open grounds serving as its "back yard."  After a great dinner at a local place recommended by our hotel manager and an evening walk around our home away from home, it's time to turn in.

We have a full day planned for tomorrow and we'll tell you all about it as soon as we can.  Thanks to all of you for your great responses and we'll be back online tomorrow!

The New Vikings,

Dave And Paul Schwan
