Monday, May 4, 2009 -- Howdy From Elk City, OK

Hey, Folks!

Hope y'all are doin' well! We're staying in Elk City, Oklahoma tonight (Monday) 100 miles west of Oklahoma City. We've driven just over a thousand miles in two days and despite some slow driving in spots (as well as getting turned around and lost a few times) we're pleased with the trip so far. We had a hard rain through central Oklahoma this afternoon, which also slowed us down, but are intent on making Santa Fe tomorrow at some point. Had a GREAT lunch at a drug store/soda fountain in Webb City, MO, west of Joplin, which has been around since the early '30s. What a place!  Check out the shots and videos!   You'll see plenty more as we go along.  The scenery down here is awesome, too, rolling country and spaces opening wider as we get further west. But one of the greatest pleasures has been meeting and talking with people all along the way, all of whom have been extremely friendly and hospitable everywhere we've stopped.

It's been another long day on the road, so we'll check in Tuesday night from Santa Fe, where we will stay for a day or two. Be well!

The Roadsters,

Dave And Paul Schwan

Update  2/26/10:

The shots of Missouri Hick Bar-B-B-Q and the Route 66 Drive-In were taken on our return trip, driving through Missouri on our way back to Chicago.
