Hi Again!
Weīre writing this in the middle of a very remote part of the Salkantay Trail. So remote, thereīs no power source at all, except for a generator which is shut off at midnight. Itīs amazing that we have a wireless connection to write you. Unfortunately, I canīt write much tonight, except that we started the walking trek this afternoon under an amazingly clear blue sky with billowy clouds that are the whitest white you can imagine. Weīre now at 13-thousand feet or more and the altitude definitely affected us. As a result, Dad is taking an alternate route for the next couple days on the recommendation of Pepe, our guide. Heīll be moved around by car some of the way to avoid the higher altitudes. While he wonīt be part of the total trek, heīll still get to do a good bit of it and definitely get to participate in the day at Machu Picchu.
Even though this place is very remote, itīs a great place to stay. We had a great dinner with our tour group and are looking forward to tomorrow. Thatīs it for now. Thanks again for all your great emails!
The Trekkers,
Dave And Paul Schwan
