UPDATE 6/5/08:

We´re pretty tardy with our updates.  Sorry about that!  We have been having a great time, but haven´t been able to find an internet cafe for a while.  Right now, we are actually writing this from Cadiz, but will try and get through just as much as we can.

When we looked at the ports of call for this trip, Kusadasi was not one that we thought would blow us away.  We were VERY wrong.  As we looked down the list of ship-sponsored excursions, we saw one that visited the Virgin Mary´s house and also made a trip to the ruins of Ephesus.  Whether the house was actually that of the Virgin Mary is open to some debate, but the drive to the site and the house itself (now a small chapel) was worth it.  Kristen lit a candle and left a wish on the wishing wall.

From there we went the ruins at Ephesus.  Ephesus was an ancient Roman city that had been rebuilt 3 times over the course of antiquity.  Only the third incarnation of Ephesus has been excavated, but it is a HUGE city that was home to more than 200,000 people in its prime.  Cleopatra and Antony visited Ephesus near the end of their affair.  It was a wonderful tour, but only a half day, so we didn´t have a chance to really explore the ruins too much.

Our tour guide was a Turkish girl of about 30 who was a good guide and one that clearly had a high sense of nationalism for her country.  We were told of the many wonders of Turkey many times over.  Perhaps Turkey will warrant a return trip someday.

As we toured the sites, we kept running into a younger couple whom we recognized from the ship.  We were able to take pictures for each other, so Kristen and I finally have some photos together!  Since that excursion, we´ve ended up spending a couple of dinners and ports stops together.  It´s sure nice to have met some people our age, especially on a boat that seems to be a little (a LOT) on the older side.

When we get a chance for a longer internet stop, we will upload some pictures.  That will probably happen in London in about 3 or 4 days.

We love you all a lot!
