Hi Everybody!

Before heading back to BKK from Hong Kong, I decided to spend a night in nearby Macau and try my luck at the abundant casinos there. If you know nothing about Macau, it is very similar to Las Vegas.....except Chinese.

Macau is so similar to Vegas, that it even has the "in the middle of nowhere" thing going on too. The hour long ferry boat ride from Hong Kong produced nothing but sights of mountains and barren coastline. Miles and miles of this until BAM here is this huge casino village of sorts. The shape of the peninsula is similar to a short dumbbell with two large pieces of land connected by a bridge. Essentially what happened is about 15 years ago gambling was permitted on the peninsula and the first few casinos opened up (Sands, MGM Grand, Wynn), then over the years, and more specifically over the past 7 years, these casinos have made a killin' which has prompted a major land reclamation project so that more casinos could be built. In the past few years, on the other end of the Peninsula, new casinos such as The Venetian and The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino have opened up and the construction of a Caesar's Palace is supposed to be finished in 2011. But at the same time, there are also the hole-in-the-wall bargain basement casinos (think where Chevy Chase tries to win his money back in Vegas Vacation) scattered throughout Macau too, so whatever you fancy in gambling venues, Macau has it for you.

It was a great time. Seeing that the one and only time I had been to Vegas was when I was 17 (such a cruel age to be in Vegas), I was ready to try my hand at the world of gambling. And wouldn't you know it, I actually did quite well. I won $300 USD from a slot machine, and after a few gin-and-tonic-induced stupid bets on the roulette table, I walked away from this trip having $200 USD. That covered the cost of my plane ticket. HAHA! O'Doyle rules.

After my trip to Macau, I headed back home to do a little laundry because the next day, I was off to the most amazing beach in the world: Railay Beach. Hey, I had a rough week so far, I think I deserve a little R & R. :-)

Thanks for reading. You guys rock. I love you and God Bless!
