VALLEY OF FIRE
I had no idea what I was going to find when I saw Valley of Fire State Park on the Nevada map. Almost decided it wasn't worth the hour drive out of Las Vegas. I'm so glad I ventured out. The weather was perfect. Sunny and warm and I won't be seeing much of that once I get back to Ohio. I didn't think I should waste such a beautiful day inside a casino. So I jumped in the rental van. Thank goodness for unlimited mileage.
I found a great little book at the cash register at the travel center/gas station at the freeway exit that showed all the trails and pictures of the highlights and I was getting excited about the park. Once I arrived I felt as if I were on another planet. A view reinforced by Hollywood. This park is a popular location for shooting movies be it westerns or science fiction. Captain Kirk died on one of the bridges in the park in "Star Trek Generations" and I recognized some of the scenery from the battle. "Electric Horseman" was also filmed in the park. About 45 movies a year are shot here.
Check out the photos and you'll see why...
