Today, among many other Epcot delights we visited the American Adventure. This show really is a remarkable feat of imagineering. The way that it seamlessly combines animatronics with animated projected backgrounds is extremely impressive, not to mention the technical achievement of a walking Ben Franklin and a rope twirling Will Rogers. However, all these technological milestones take a backseat to a moving ramble through the history of America. It is easy to sneer at the overt patriotism of the pavillion's soaring theme song, and of course the history lesson imparted here is shot through the prism of what is palatable to a family theme park audience, but there really is something truly admirable about this American adventure. The ideal of a nation in which any child can aspire to the highest office is particularly pertinent at a time in which, back in my own country, 'we the people' are busy celebrating the birth of a child who has just been born to such office. I am we'll aware that the reality of America for many people falls some way short of the dream, yet it is in the possibility that the spirit of the nation lives. The hope that I may one day live in a place where such opportunity is available to my children is a truth that I personally find self evident.
