Genting Highlands is a mountain peak, unofficially known as the 'Las Vegas of Malaysia'.

On our third morning in Malaysia, we took one hour bus ride from Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Kubu Bharu. From there we took world’s fastest and South East Asia’s longest cable car ride to the City of Entertainment. It was a cloudy day and drizzling occasionally. The best part of this trip was the Genting Skyway. The thirty minutes ride through the clouds was tranquil. We enjoyed beautiful misty views from the surrounding hills on our way up.

After reaching the peak, I realized the bus ticket included cable car fare and I paid twice for the cable car ride. We went to Coffee Terrace for lunch. The view from the restaurant was superb.

Genting Highlands is the only place to gamble legally in Malaysia. I never gambled before and I consider myself as "unlucky" when it comes to any game of chance. We entered the Monte Carlo Casino just for the heck of it. The place was full of middle-aged Chinese-Malaysians. Most games looked complicated and so I went for the effortless Slot Machines. I started with RM 10 and kept losing till I had RM 2 left in my balance. Then I hit a jackpot and earned RM 15. Right after winning back the money, I cashed my chips and left the casino. I’m pretty sure within few more games I would have lost all my RM 15.

Genting Highlands has both indoor and outdoor theme parks. I am always up for adrenaline rush and hence outdoor activities are my natural choice. I made the mistake of buying tickets for the outdoor theme park in the cloudy weather. After two rides, it started raining and most of the rides were shut down.

In the evening we took a walk and enjoyed the scenic beauty of the forest and mountains. We started cable car ride in the late evening. It was dark and stormy. Occasional lightning made the whole ride very thrilling. The cable car had to stop few times due to strong winds. It took around one hour to come down.

We reached Kuala Lumpur at night and went to bed early to catch next morning’s flight to Langkawi.

Casinos are fast catching the imagination of the tourists especially guests staying at luxury hotels Malaysia who just play the game for the thrill of it.

Nice place for family, friends and couples. My favorite ride was the Space Shot. As Malaysia is a humid country, genting highlands is a nice place to have a thunder blast.
