We had our flight in the evening at around 8, which meant that we had to reach the air port by at least 5, which again meant that we had to leave from Priyani’s at around 3 PM…so we had the entire morning to ourselves, which we spent starting with packing, then breakfast, then some time at the beach, then lunch and then coffee at the beach. After packing and breakfast was done, I was sitting in the living room, waiting for Abhishek to get ready…to kill the time I was watching TV and was joined by the Vietnamese lady I had met before…she mentioned that she had been to India and hated Indian Beaches…she also told me that Vietnamese beaches were the best! She said that Vietnam as a country is changing so fast that if I wanted to see the Vietnamese culture I had only 4-5 years left before it vanishes…Hence, I made up my mind that Vietnam was gonna be my next country on the list!
We walked to the super marked to buy a few things, finish rest of the packing and checked our rooms for any items still lying…we had particular trouble to fit the stool we had bought in Pinnewala.Once everything was done, we went to beach, spent some time there and ordered our lunch…lunch was simple but good (some noodles and curry and rice)…after lunch, we decided to have coffee before heading to the airport.
Coffee was really nice and we felt pretty relaxed after that and did not really want to leave the place…but as it is always, the time was flying and we had to leave the beach…We went back to Priyani’s picked up our luggage, thanked Priyani to be such an amazing host and were on our way by 3 PM….the drill was simple….Hotel road- bus 101- Fort road- bus to a stop near airport- free trolly to the airport…We reached the airport by around 5-5.30…went to the immigration, got ourselves cleared and then had enough time to check out the airport.Airport is not very different from other international airports, but we decided to check out the stores displaying Sri Lankan culture, jewellery, Sri Lankan handicrafts, clothes etc. We hardly had any cash left and hence did not buy anything…from last remaining SLR 30, we decided to buy a cashew pack! On the way back home, I was recollecting the places we went to, people we met, food that we ate and realised that even though, culturally Sri Lanka is not too different from India, people there were more laid-back and helpful, food more tasty, transportation more organised and places beautiful to eyes…may be it was because, I was first time on my own, backpacking in the foreign land and was first time feeling the thrill of traveling! Whatever it was, I loved the country, the food and people and will once more go there for sure!
