Flag of Bahamas  , Hope Town,
Sunday, April 8, 2012

Hi everyone. Sorry it's taken so long to update this blog. We just haven't been able to get good internet coverage. We are in Hope Town in the Abacos and enjoying just relaxing for a change. We went back up the Exumas and stayed one night at the marina in Highborne Cay and then crossed into the western tip of Eleuthera anchoring at Royal Island for a night and then continued on another 57 miles to Little Harbor Abaco. Our weather was great, we sailed the whole way. We anchored in Marsh Harbor for several days to reprovision and get gas and diesel and water then left this past Wednesday for Hope Town. The weather was supposed to deteriorate and we needed to find a hidey hole. The mooring field filled up fast as boats were scurrying to find a safe haven from an approaching squall with gale force winds. It hit alright on Good Friday afternoon. Winds were clocked at 75 mph at one point not too far from here. We participated in our first ever dingy drift around the harbor later that day. Saturday Denny & Lee got to see the candy cane striped historic lighthouse being lit up. The lighthouse keeper also works at the Hope Town marina office and let a few people up the stairs after hours to watch him light the kerosene torch inside the Fresnell lens. There are two light house keepers and they live on the grounds full time because the torch has to be lit every two hours all night long. A beautiful sight to see. He told them that during Hurricane Irene this past summer they kept the light on and the residents of all the surrounding islands for 20 miles were so grateful. We'll be leaving here on Wednesday and going to Treasure Cay. We'll update the blog and do our emails then. We'll be in touch. (There are some pictures below)
