So, after a crazy 24 hours trying to get here, we are finally in Brazil. Number one, NEVER fly with Air Canada. They suck. It's a long story but pretty much all flights were canceled or delayed to Canada and Toronto was our connection to Sao Paulo. Our first flight was delayed for four hours and they would NOT help us. So frustrating, but the United people managed to get us on a flight to Chicago that boarded 20 minutes after they got the flight for us. So we were running through the airport....we did make is to Chicago and after all of that running, our flight to Sao Paulo was delayed for 3 hours. Nevertheless, we are here and we both have slept about 20 hours each last night and today. Traveling really sucks the energy out of you. We did happen to sit right next to a Brazilian guy our age on the flight from New York to Chicago. He was amazingly friendly and invited us to his house in the Northeast of Brazil. Eli is beginning to realize that I wasn't lying when I said Brazil is one of the friendliest cultures in the world.

We are now with my friend Ada, my Brazilian roomate from Syracuse. She lives in a beautiful house in Sao Paulo city with her mom, grandma and two sisters. They also have five dogs. It's like a petting zoo when you walk into their house. There is only one male dog, Caetano, a very chubby bulldog. Eli feels pretty outnumbered by all of these women. At least Caetano is here, he LOVES Eli.

We went to a few bars last night and Eli tried his first Caipirinha. Caipirinha, for those of you who do not know, is a VERY strong drink made from Cachaca (rum made from sugar cane), lime and sugar. VERY potent. Eli learned that the hard way and he is feeling it today.

We are leaving Sao Paulo on the 31st at about 3:00 in the morning to drive to Paraty, a city in the state of Rio de Janeiro. There, we are getting on a boat and heading to Ada's fathers beach house in another city for New Years. As my mom would say...."You really know how to meet 'em Saskia." More to come on that....After we come back to Sao Paulo, we are going to see my host sister and best friend, Fulvia. We will stay with her in Sao Paulo for a few days, then head to the town I used to live in called Sertaozinho with Bruno, Natalia and Fulvia. That is about all we have planned for the next year or so. We are just going to let life happen to us down here and keep the future planning to a minimum. Tout va bien.

P.S. Eli is also doing a blog with all of our pictures from our trip. Go to www.travelpod.com/member/winderbaum
