"So quiet and peaceful
Tranquil and blissful
There's a kind of magic in the air
What a truly magnificent view
A breathtaking scene
With the dreams of the world
In the palm of your hand
It's all so beautiful
Like a landscape painting in the sky - yeah -
Mountains are zoomin' higher - mm -
Little girls scream an' cry
My world is spinnin' and spinnin' and spinnin'
It's unbelievable
Sends me reeling
Am I dreaming...
Am I dreaming...?
Oooh - it's a biss."
Queen - A winter's tale

Blue Mountains. A little paradise on earth. What a good decision that was to go there for a couple of days and not only for a daytrip from Sydney. It wouldn't have been the same. From Sydney I took the train to Katoomba, the village in which I had booked my very first hostel ever, The Flying Fox. It turned out to be the perfect choice. I turned up at the same time as the English Philippa, we dropped our stuff in the rooms (the room was a bit of a chock when I saw it for the first time, what a mess everywhere!) and 15 minutes later we were already on our way for a first walked, recommended to us by hostel owner Ross. The slate-coloured haze that gives the mountains their name comes from a fine mist of oil exuded by eucalyptus trees.Waterfalls, rainforest, all sorts of different colors of green, a blue sky, a shining sun and amazing sounds of all sorts of extraordinary birds. Wow! We walked and walked and walked and got from one spectacular view to an other. I tried to take as many photos as I could, although how it really was won't probably come out on the photos that well....Already at this stage I was so glad that I hadn't come on one of these tourist buses that just let you out for 10 minutes to take a photo and then keep going again....Just before the end of our walk we took the Scenic Railway; the steepest railway in the world. And shortly after that we found ourselves looking at the famous 'Three Sisters'. This is an impressive rock formation and the story goes that the Three Sisters were turned to stone by a sorcerer to protect them from the unwanted advances of three young men, but the sorcerer died before he could turn them back into humans. What a great walk!
Back in the hostel I got to meet some of my 'roommates'; 24-year old Wen from Taiwan, 19-year young Annelies from Holland and 30-year old Veronika from Germany. Veronika and I were meant to meet eachother, that's for sure. It can't be a coincidence that a German girl and a Dutch girl share the same interests and have exactly the same toiletbag (honestly, how many different varieties of toiletbags can you buy in the world??!!), the same agenda (!) and the same padlock. The fact that we both have 'a 3' in our age was something that connected us too and so we found ourselves going out to a nice Tai restaurant together in the evening and played backgammon in the hostel later that evening. And for the next day we decided to go for a walk together. That walk the next day was even more amazing than the one from the previous day. The only way that I can describe it is that it felt like being 'Alice in Wonderland'. Two girls all alone in a big rainforest with trees, plants, stones and cliffs so big that they made you feel very little. The walk was called 'the little Grand Canyon' and Ross had told us that we would get the 'isolated from the rest of the world feeling'. And that's exactly what it was. And Veronika was the best company that I could have wished for. At the end of this walk, and even though we had walked already for almost 3 hours, we decided to do a second walk, the Cliff Top Track. This one was different from the first walk and gave us great 'open views' on the thick forest below. You definately wouldn't like to get lost down there! At 18h00 we got back to the hostel and cooked ourselves a pasta dinner. Wen tells us about her travels along the East coast and Veronika and I try to see if there's a possibility to meet again later, in for example Fraser Island or Whitsunday Islands. But if ever this won't work out then we will surely meet again somewhere in Europe!

Yesterday afternoon I took the train back to Sydney and from there I started the 14-hours busride to Byron Bay. And that's where I have arrived this morning. The sun has been hiding behind the clouds, but according to the people here that's not even too bad because it can get very hot here! More stories to follow soon!!

WAUW!
nou lieve zus, doe voorzichtig. Toch wel goed zeker dat je je wandelschoenen mee hebt ipv gympies??

UNCREDIBLE
Each trip is better than the previous one... it seems to be an incredible world.
The coincidences are so unimaginable and also... a German girl with so many common points. Terrific.
So many things to see, to visit, to do, to catch... will you take one day to relax? and to leave your feets on holidays? I'm sure you will be ready for the next IRONMAN oh no IRONWOMAN running...in 6 weeks.
Happy to read that you live very excitings and unmissing moments.
With pleasure to read the following report.

Haha! Geniet nog van je laatste dagen! En goede reis terug.
Groet, Marije
