The Compestela is the certification that one receives at the end of the Camino acknowledging that you have completed the pilgrimage. To receive one you must walk the last 100 kilometers to Santiago. While it is a little more than a 100 kms from Santiago the town of Sarria (population of about 13000) is a starting place for many people because it can be reached easily by bus and train. So we are expecting to see another increase in walkers.
Our walk today took us down (up to go down and down to go up). While steep in some places it was, while not easy, not as bad was we had been led to believe.
There are the remains of an old castle (most of it was destroyed during a peasant revolt), some ancient churches and a lovely old monastery. We will be going down to the river shortly to have supper with some Camino friends if we can find them.
