This past saturday we went to the beautiful city of Annecy. It is gorgeous! Of course, all the towns I have been to so far I have thought were pretty, but I think Annecy wins. Every year there is a competition between the cities of France to decide which one has the most elaborate and beautiful flowers decorating their streets. Annecy almost always wins so I am told.
Our group went to the small church there, and afterwards we ate lunch by the lake. It is the second largest lake in France, after the Lac du Bourget, if the French part of Lake Geneva (which is also partly in Switzerland) is excluded. It is known as "Europe's cleanest lake" because of strict environmental regulations introduced in the 1960s.The lake is beyond description..I think the pictures speak for themselves.
After lunch, I went with my friends Nadia, Rebecca, and Julian. Julian is a native of France and it was very nice to have him along with us for the day. There is nothing better then traveling with someone who is from the country. We walked around the old city and then meandered our way to the FREE beach :) By that time it was around 4 in the afternoon, so we didn't really feel like swimming..it is a MOUNTAIN lake! So we just laid in the sun until around 7 and then found a lovely little restaurant to dine in called Le Beau Soleil (the beautiful sun) I ordered cheese fondue, a speciality of this region..and it was delicious (A little bit rich) but I had help finishing it up..
Of course, the 14th of July in France is their independence day! Bastille day! So around 10:30 we met up with the gang and the fireworks over the lake commenced! It was beautiful!! My first time celebrating another country's independence day in their country!
