Today is an exciting day as we are leaving Rome and venturing to our new homes in Florence. We spent only a few hours in the morning covering more sites, namely the Prime Minister's building. I also walked around the Trevi fountain again to do some shopping and found myself upon the Spanish steps for a second time.

After pausing for espresso, I made my way to the hotel where the group began to board the bus. Perched on the second level of the double-decker bus, we began the trek down the tiny two lane Italian expressways. The scenery was exotic and interesting ranging from vineyards to mountains to castles.

Due to the ancient nature of Florence's roadways, our bus was to large to enter the city. Thus we divided into smaller shuttles outside the city limits and were whisked through the tiny alleys and streets to our apartments.

We wasted no time as we unloaded our luggage, left our apartments and went out for our first dinner in Firenze. A small group of us found a tiny trattoria by the name of Maria's and decided that this was to be the place. We sat around a tiny table in the grotto like cellar of the restaurant drinking vino rosso and conversing. With my affinity for rare beef I felt obligated to order the Bifstecca Florentine.

We ate slowly, enjoying the new type of cuisine. It was wonderful, yet disappointing, to know that our period of intense site seeing was over. Mornings could now be leisurely; our feet would not ache at the end of the day. We finished the wine and pondered what Florence had in store for us.
