After a 5-minute bus ride through Oświęcim, Adam and I soon realized that Auschwitz I was a picnic compared to Auschwitz II - Birkenau. Auschwitz I may have been the world's worst concentration camp, but Birkenau was hands-down the worst extermination camp. An eerie silence lingered over the enormous death camp. Hundreds of visitors meandered through the grounds, not making a single sound. Seriously. Adam and I covered the entire camp in about three hours and went back to Krakow in complete disbelief.

I made sure to include as much information as possible in the photos' captions, but nothing will compare to actually being on those grounds and walking the same paths as so many innocent victims. May their souls rest in peace. Alav ha-shalom.
