Checking out of The Magic Castle Hotel was a little sad, as it is such a great place to stay and the staff are excellent. Gary could not wait to get out of LA, he was not really liking the city at all. We hit the road towards Malibu with the sun shining, detouring via Beverley Hills. We took a side street and checked out some Beverley Hills mansions; some seriously gorgeous houses around that area. Still no celeb sightings. We drove down Rodeo Drive just to say we had done it.

We drove along the ocean road through Malibu, there are some seriously huge houses down there as well. Malibu is a massive area and took over an hour to cover. We also stopped at Santa Barbara, which was a lovely little city, very quaint and picturesque. The GPS was not playing nicely at one stage, and we spent some wasted time at a freeway intersection.

We rolled in to Pismo Beach about 4pm, and checked into our hotel, the Sandcastle Inn. This hotel is right on the beach and our room overlooks the beach. We went for a walk on the pier, and watched the sun set over the ocean. Lucy checked out the water, which was very cold; apparently an assortment of surfers were not deterred.

Lucy, Gary and I then had a spa...or should we say a jacuzzi. This spa was outdoors but overlooked the ocean, so we watched the last rays of sun while we soothed ourselves in the spa. Totally gorgeous experience.

We were all starving, so we headed out for dinner at the restaurant next door, The Sea Venture. This was quite simply the best food any of us had eaten for some time. Gary and I had steaks, Holly had chicken and Lucy had a caeser salad. The food, wine and service was excellent. We are now tucked up in bed watching Conan O'Brien on TV. Our road trip continues tomorrow to San Francisco.
