As I wasn't thinking clearly, I decided to go shopping and I decided to go to Primarck. Primarck is 10x more awesome than H&M and insanely crowded with people. Obviously, the day after Christmas wasn't quite the day to go.
I waited half an hour to try on my clothes and half an hour to checkout. Yet, I found a dress for FIVE POUNDS. As my boss now says, "Don't wash it." Sure, the quality isn't great but it's much more about quantity here. They also have tons of purses and clutches for THREE pounds. Shoes for 4-5. I bought another dress for 11 pounds and a necklace for 1.50. And the underwear section is huge and cheap as well. My favorite part is watching the women in the underwear section as there is always at least one Muslim woman in a full burka insanely stuffing only the most slutty lingerie into her basket.
I should also mention that London is warm. It's been between 40 and 50 degrees everyday so I decided to eat lunch outside. I ended up talking to a guy from Egypt who started by complaining how cold it was which I thought was funny as I decided it was warm enough to have a picnic. The end of Oxford Street (where Primarck is) is on the corner of Hyde Park. I wandered into Hyde Park but didn't get too far before running into "Winter Wonderland."
Apparently the Germans are the only ones who know how to do a Christmas market because there seems to be a German Christmas market in every country. This was a German Christmas mark combined with carnival rides (including haunted houses where the ghouls had Christmas hats...) combined with ice skating. I bought a cute felted change purse (because my mom won't make me any) and had a Belgian waffle with chocolate on it while sitting in front of a tv fire. Very cheesy but fun.
Later that night, I went to the movies up in Camden with Colin. Colin is another American who is working at a pub off of Picadilly Circus and just so happens to love Baz Luhrman so it was great to meet someone to see Australia with me. Also, I'm so glad I lied to get my student ID card. Even the movies were 2 pounds cheaper with it. We also had yummy chicken shawarma before hand in Camden for super cheap.
So basically, this is how I had an incredibly productive day of shopping and entertainment for under 40 pounds. Whoever says this is the most expensive city in the world is full of crap. Go to Copenhagen.
