I did it. Do I really need to go into more details than that!!!!! It was cold, wet, rainy and very muddy, I knew the sun must have come out at some point because it got dark later, I didn't see it.

I got to the half way point in the 5 hours I had hoped to and really felt like packing in. I was carrying half the last field on my feet at the time. The clay mud was hard work. It would have been a lovely down hill stretch to run otherwise. I tried to get to the next check point and kept thinking I would make my mind up at each check point as to whether to keep going or not. Then I only had 9 miles to go and I was happy with that. It took 3 hours to do those though.

12 hours 15 minutes.

Loads of people dropped out or so I was told. The relay runners didn't help as they came flying past or later were doing the end section as an extra and I couldn't work out why they were so fresh. The dark was off putting but  I managed the navigation well. Luckily there were others across some of the fields but I had managed some very lonely sections on my own. Oddly I'd see the same people at the check points and start with them but they disappear again just to be there again.

Well 7 weeks ago I sent a lass home from work with a cold and then I got that at the weekend after the Snowdon marathon. I told her I would not be happy if I caught it this time. I've now got a sore throat but luckily have a holiday day today so will chill out after a trip to buy a new curtain rail as one has just decided top break in my lounge!!!

I'm glad I've done it but do wonder why it's meant to be a good training run for the marathon de sables. All that cold, wet and mud!!!
