All ten of us had a rod each and we had some chum which was a gross mixture of bread and some funky smelling pink stuff, fish maybe. For those of you unfamiliar with the art of fishing we had to put the chum on a metal ball and then when the line is cast the chum falls off and attracts the fish. Once the fish catches a whiff of the funky smelling chum it swims it's way over and finds our fishing hook which has a feast on it of half frozen prawns, mussels, sausage and sweetcorn.....yum yum! There were supposedly over 400 piranha in this pond however between 10 of us over the space of 2 hours we only managed to catch one piranha and that was by yours truly
It took me a good hour to learn how to cast as I kept on forgetting to undo the reel and couldn't quite get the wrist action right. By the second hour though I was a pro and literally two minutes after casting beautifully right into the middle of the lake I got a bite! I freaked out big time, got my reel tangled and Sam had to help me and basically reeled it in by hand as the line was tangled. sarah and Sam piranha fishing dream team!! Seb saw the commotion and sprinted round the lake for a bit of the action and a bit of the glory. The boys helped me land it in the net and we then began the long task of trying to get the hook out with minimal damage to the poor fishy. I felt a bit guilty as the poor piranha looked very distressed, he did get a free dinner though and only has a 3 second memory so maybe it's not so bad.
The remaining hour was pretty uneventful, Dom caught a carp and all the boys were grumpy that the only fish caught was by a girl tehe.
