Just a little correction from our last blog.... turns out, after talking to the owner of our hostel in Dunedin, that the old building is actually an old hospital!! They have the original plaque that says "Chalet Hosptial" and the orginal blueprints as well. Will and I were staying in one of the nurses bedrooms on the first floor, while Wes was staying in an old operating theatre! CREEPY eh? Turns out all the signs on the doors warning you about ghosts where actually not jokes after all....
We drove about 5 hours north to Christchurch on the last sunny day that we have had. Most of the drive is along the cliff edge of the coast line and was stunning. As usual, stopped a million times to take pictures.
We arrived in Christchurch with no where to stay. Called around to all the hostels in the Lonely Planet, but everyone was full except for one place 20 mins from town. Turned out to be a blessing in disguise because this place was in a little seaside village surrounded by cliffs and these caves everywhere. We ended up staying there for three nights becuae it was so nice. Apparently the beach across the road from our hostel is good for surfing but because of the bad weather, it wasn't great.
Tonight we are staying in the town of Christchurch for a change. Its great town of about 300 000 people. The city is centered around the main Cathedral and main square. We spent a few hours in the Art Centre and Art Gallery where all the local artists have their work on display.
One spot in particular grabbed my attention.... the bead room. It was this huge room full of different beads of all different shapes, types, sizes, stones etc... and you pick what you want and then make the jewelry right there. I wished my sisters where there.... we always loved that kind of stuff as kids... and still do i guess!
Because of the rain, we went and watched the "Slumdog Millionaire". If you haven't seen it, you should! It was fantastic.... tragic but beautiful at the same time.
Tomorrow we are heading across to the west coast of the island, through Arthurs Pass. Apparently its supposed to be a beautiful drive. Then eventually heading up to the Tasman Sea, to Nelson. Wes has some friends who are working up there in a orchard, so we are hoping to get on there for a few weeks. We will see!

Hi, Looking at your pics and video was a real treat. I had a little scream as I watched Will bungy-dive off the ramp... Very brave. I now remember how beautiful the South Island is. It sounds like you will be seeing most of it. A. Lynn
