Yes the drive South was an eye opener...It's a national sport to see how close you can drive behind another persons bumper whilst flashing them (I did actually chicken out of driving down South) poor Stu had to endure the lunatics. People warned us in hushed tones not to drive in "Napoli, because they are crayzee". We explored the beautiful coastline around Sorrento, Amalfi and Portofino - We did a day trip to Amalfi which saw Stu dropping us at the Lido and returning 2 HOURS later after he'd found a parking place 2.5 k away..he'll tell you about it in detail but he'll need a few wines beforehand. Let's just say there's a reason most Italians drive Fiats, Alfa's and Smart cars but not Audi A6 estates...we decided to get a cab rather than walk uphill with nipper in 32 degree heat, it worked out to be 20.73 pounds per mile which on Stu's reckoning, makes a trip to Palm beach from Manly $476. The driver was most affronted when Stu enquired delicately whether this was the tourist rate..no! no!, So it's official then, all Almalfi coast locals are millionaires! (well the cabbies are)
We'd recommend Capri but we only stayed oh about an hour before Lauren was officially "over it" and having a tantrum amongst Armani, Chloe and Prada....I also had a pout on having to leave all that top quality window shopping...yes the "ciao bella's" gave way pretty quickly to horror when lauren let rip! The island is about half an hr by hydrofoil so we made our escape quickly back to Sorrento.
One evening I dragged Stu along the shopping street to immerse ourselves in the throngs of people watchers, he then found a Guinness bar and was happy!
After Sorrento it's a quick trip to Pompeii and then we turn the caravan homeward bound!
