Left Saigon for a bit to go to our homestay in the Mekong Delta. The last few days here have been amazing, and feels like you're very much part of traditional Vietnamese life. We had a nice lunch of tiger fish at Mr Ba's house who is so cute I considered a kidnap plot. They live in a very traditional house on the banks of the Mekong river which is fertile, irrigating the land all around.
We stayed in another family's home and lazed in hammocks for a while, before seeing typical Vietnamese industry in action: making rice paper (the woman was 72!), making coconut sweets, drying lychees, and firing clay urns. It's interesting to see how resourceful the Vietnamese are: for example, the family who made the sweets used every last bit of the coconut: the husk for fuel, the shell as tools.
Went back to Saigon afterwards.
