We stayed in Swakopmund until the 24th April as our bus only went to Vic Falls twice a week.

We spent time at the beach, went for a run, started our travel blog here with help from some friendly Canadians, shopped and pretty much lazed around the place. We said goodbye to the safari group here as well. We actually wished we were going all the way to Vic Falls with them but we had no time and a flight booked to India! The safari group were really nice as was Bernie the guide.

We encountered a couple of beggar children here wanting money for bread. Instead of giving them money, we went and bought them some groceries. It made their day! They were so polite- thanked us with huge smiles and ran off and devoured the bag of groceries by the side of the road. They had no shoes and were pretty dirty but we were glad we could help them a little bit. Overall, we didn't come across much begging in Namibia.

Swakopmund is Namibia's adrenaline spot as well as a holiday destination for many Southern Africans. It's basically a town built on sand in the desert that is right by the ocean. Its population is 25 000.There are beaches, nice restaurants, cafes, movie theatre, shops etc. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie even decided to move here to have their baby! The Tourist Information even gave us a brochure on the resort that the famous duo were staying at! Haha!

Swakopmund is a German town with a lot of German architecture.

It was a nice, easy-going and laidback town. You didn't feel any threat of violence at all.
