forgive the lack of capitals, the shift key is only working sporadically........

Arrived in Mar del Plata yesterday after a 6 hour bus ride through the pampas. Very flat scenery, and the only exciting thing that happened on the journey was the bus driver and his assistant getting out at one point to do a bit of an inspection of the bus, at which point i thought uh-oh, might be in for a bit of a delay here. but no, apparently there was nothing wrong so off we went again. airlines could learn a thing or two from these buses, they are very comfy with leg rests and dvds playing.

anyhow, arrived and found a cheap hotel, with my own bathroom this time. what luxury! mar del plata is a seaside resort town but since its off season (in fact in was the first day of spring whilst i was in Buenos aires, a fact that florists seemed particularly keen to promote), its still pretty quiet. apparently in the summer its wall to wall porteņos (people from Buenos aires) getting their suntans. but for now, its nice and quiet, although not quite warm enough for paddling in the sea. its nice to see the sea again though. today i wandered down to the port area to see some sea lions who loll around on the beach, surrounded, and completely unperturbed by the boat-building etc which is going on around them. they just lie around on the sand growling at each other and occasionally doing a bit of yawning. so funny, and just unbelievably stinky - my nose is still recovering from the ripeness!!

also had a quick look around the sea shell museum here - interesting up to a point but then i remembered i had had seafood pasta for lunch so felt a bit guilty and sloped off.

you will all be delighted to know that i have just succeeded in getting my photos from the last week or so burned onto a cd - now you can be bored to tears by one hundred and one different views of the cataratas del iguazu. Or at least you could if i had picked an internet cafe which has cd drives in its computers. ah well next time i will add some photos.

am heading south to necochea tomorrow morning. bought my bus ticket and minimal pauses to figure out how to say what i want and not too much head-scratching on the part of the bus company employee, so v pleased with myself. necochea is only a couple of hours away, a mere hop skip and jump by argentine standards. (the plan is to head south as far as i can go without falling off the bottom of the continent so you can safely assume i am heading that way for the next month or so. man this country is HUGE!)

take care all

Wow!
It all looks amazing, great to see the photos! I am very impressed by the fact that you are obviously speaking so much Spanish - you won't need any lessons at this rate..... Anyway, I am having dinner with Kate and Lel tonight so we will have a drink for you...
