Saturday was a little overcast as we left the condo. As we approached Kahului the thick clouds swirling around Pu'u Ula'ula dissuaded us from attempting the haleakala crater drive, and the fact that we couldn't even see the valley entrance to Iao's needle ruled out plan B. We stopped for a fast lunch at Sam Sato's (on Maui it is the place locals go for saimin) and just as we were leaving the heavens opened. As the rain hammered on the car, giving it a much needed wash (the unfortunate side-effects of parking under trees for shade on a island that has birds other than chickens. Whatever bad things you have to say about chickens at least they don't roost in trees). The rain was coming down so hard that even the super-fast setting on the windshield washers that you usually can't ever imagine using was inadequate. The rain made it a perfect day for Plan C - the Maui Ocean centre, an outstanding aquarium featuring shark and sea turtle tanks.
