So...I was at a Sweet Adelines Contest in Grand Rapids, Michigan and had to fly to Dodge to complete an audit.  The morning I was leaving, someone from the Chorus asked me if I'd phoned ahead to find out if my hotel was still standing.  I, of course, had no idea what she was talking about.  I called the hotel, they said everything was good, so I proceeded on my way.  I flew from Grand Rapids to Chicago to Wichita.  I sat beside a grumpy woman with a crying baby...I couldn't blame her but jeez!  The landing was a little rough in Wichita because we landed in a storm. I had to stay on the plane an extra 10 minutes or so, until I knew I wouldn't lose my lunch or pass out.  I rented a car and headed to Dodge.  This is normally a 2 hour drive, straight across the highway and through a town called Greensburg.  Over the weekend there were 29 tornados in Kansas, two of which had completely wiped out Greensburg and one that was in full swing as I was treking my way across the state.  The roads had very little space to pull over, the rain was falling hard & fast and there was a detour around Greensburg as the highway was covered in debris and the detour had to go south due to a tornado and flooding north. On the way, when I could see where I was driving, I saw several buildings collapsed, some on fire, some moved to a new location and flipped upside down.  There was a length of road about 5 miles long that had all their hydro poles pulled out and disintegrated, with the wire nowhere to be seen and dead cattle in the fields flipped upside down waiting for someone to take them away.  It was very distressing. After four very tense hours I made it to the hotel - which just opened two weeks previous.  The hotel owner gave me a beer, and I headed to my hotel to call home and let them know I arrived safely there.
