Crazy weather in Tulum today - I started early as I was on a mission to see the ruins, and having rode past them on the way to the beach for the last 6 days I knew they got packed pretty quickly. So, 7:50am I set off for the 8am opening time and rode all of about a kilometre in the hot sun to get to the entrance. It was interesting to see ruins that look over the beach - beautiful views and I spent more time looking at these than the ruins themselves. Another cool aspect of the Tulum Ruins (and being there early) was seeing Iguanas sunning themselves left, right and centre. These things were huge and found great spots on top of different temples and the like.
After sussing out the ruins I rode back, had breakfast and headed off snorkelling with a fellow traveller (from Helsinki). We rode to the Grand Cenote - an underground cave which was really cool to snorkel in. A bit scary going into the dark but great coming out into a small lagoon surrounded by trees and jungle.
Mr Finland and I rode the 30 mins back (stopping for Gelato on the way), then I spent the afternoon chilling out, moseying next door to get tacos off the street, that kind of thing.
Come 4pm I envisgaged an evening walk along the beach, so I set off over the highway into the semi over cast direction of the beach. I lasted 10 minutes before it started to sprinkle, then as I began to ride back I was caught in some serious terrential rain.
The gang is now back under the tarp in the hostel - Cello is running around saving the washing, and we are keeping dry with laptops and other entertainment. Off to Isle de Mujeres tomorrow (an Island off Cancun) for 9 days to end my Mexico stint - hopefully the weather improves!
