From Switzerland we came to Austria, home of schapps and the original place the croissant comes from (another thing the french stole). The town we visited was Innsbruck which was home to the winter olympics twice. Speaking of the winter olympics, I got sick of that being the only thing I could watch on tv since everything else was in another language.

First up was a walking tour of Innsbruck. The architecture was amazing and the most famous landmark in Innsbruck was the palace with the golden roof. Its actually copper and the roof itself is actually pretty small so that was a bit of a let down. From the city you could actually see apart of the ski jump used in the olympics. The next place of interest was a crystal factory. Here they can make anything and everything out of crystal, if you have the money. Some of the sculptures were amazing with dragon, lizards, unicorns etc. The best shop was the schanpps shop. There were about 40 varieties and the best part was you could try before you buy. They ranged from the 55% absynthe schnapps to the more drinkable 18% fruity schapps. We all got a different variety to sample for the night. They included fire red (50%), butterscotch (18%), cappucino (18%), tequila sunrise (20%) and peach (18%).

One funny sight was seeing Australians trying to ice skate. There were these little training statues and some people were holding on for dear life. Once we got back to the hotel we discovered that there was another contiki group who were going to be following us all through Italy. This group was no where near as loud as the previous group. They had this black american guy called dial tone (don't ask me why) and he was absolutely hilarious. Some of the group mingled down in the bar and some of us had a room party with our newly acquired schanpps. That stuff was very nice and went down well.

Breakfast the next morning was horrible, cereal and stale breadrolls. After breakfast we were on the bus again ready to head to some warmer weather in Italy.
