Izmir was such a modern city - heaps of young corporate people extremely well dressed. Cafes everywhere and we dodged the bazaar district as we were told it was totally cheesy and not very safe. Friends we've met went and they said it was ok though - they got a suit tailored in 2 hours for E130.00. We did quite a few kilometres on foot around the harbour as it is surrounded by parkland and special walking and exercising tracks (complete with tartan and time/measurement indicators). Beautiful warm weather. Was difficult ordering lunch, but - live on the edge - just point to a lyrical sounding name and you get an awesome salad with meat. Rather reminded me of Sydney.
